Our mission is to create a shaded, safe and joyful outdoor space where 5-year old Bodhi can comfortably enjoy with his family by June 30, 2025.
AGC was approached by Make-A-Wish to help a precious 5-year old boy named Bodhi. Bodhi is not terminal but was born with an issue that presents lifelong challenges. He is non-verbal with limited mobility, experiences sunlight sensitivity which can trigger seizures, and has difficulties with grass,
Bodhi‘s wish is so humble and sweet … he just wants to be able to play outside with his twin 4-year old sisters and parents.
The Plan:
The existing patio will be re-configured and enlarged to allow for wheelchair accessibility into the house from any point of entry. Since Bodhi likes fish, an blue tile “stream” will be inlaid into the patio with a fish stamping in the concrete. A large cantilever umbrella will provide shade over a dining table so that the family can eat outdoors. (Thank you for donated materials, labor and design from Cox Concrete, SRM, Appalachian Concrete Pumping, Overlooked Materials, and Chattanooga Floor Care).
A large 24 x 14 gazebo will be installed over premium quality artificial grass to give Bodhi a large shaded area to play freely on the ground with his family. (Thank you to Earthworks for design input.)
The gazebo will have draping on the sides for shading and rain prevention. The gazebo will have 2 outdoor fans, lights, and electricity. Two misters will be purchased for additional cooling on hot days. (Thank you to Adman Electric for electrical assistance).
Since Bodhi likes TV, a sectional sofa will be located at one end of the gazebo near a TV mounted on the gazebo.
On the other side of the gazebo there will be plenty of room for a water table, sand box, sensory wall and other toys for Bodhi to enjoy. Outdoor beanbag furniture (thank you to NOI for this furniture) will provide Bodhi with a comfortable place to relax. A low fountain will be located under the gazebo for splashing and playing.
The Need:
Members have generously committed to more than $15,000 in material and labor donations already, but we still need help to cross the finish line. Below is a list of items needed. We will stop the Financial Donation Campaign when we have the products purchased or when we hit the financial goal.
