AGC East Tennessee & Hamilton County Schools to Host Construction Career Expo

New Expo Will Showcase Construction Careers for High School Students

CHATTANOOGA, TN November 14, 2023 —Hamilton County Schools and AGC East Tennessee are partnering to present a Construction Career Expo on Friday, December 8 for 10th grade high school students interested in exploring career opportunities in the construction industry. The parents of attending students are also invited to the Expo. Students can register for one of two time slots, 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. or 12:30 – 3:30 p.m.

The Expo will be held at the Construction Career Center (CCC) with fun hands-on demonstrations and interactive activities led by construction employers. Students will be able to test drive construction equipment and tools while gaining insight into various career pathways including electrical, plumbing, heavy equipment operation, carpentry, masonry, construction management, and more.
In addition to these immersive experiences, attendees will have the opportunity to connect with industry experts, experienced professionals and educators who are passionate about fostering the next generation of construction leaders.

For students interested in construction, Hamilton County Schools offers several vocational programs to equip students with the training needed to start construction careers directly out of high school.

“With construction jobs in demand and excellent salaries, construction is a tremendous career path that is often overlooked,” said Nic Cornelison, President of P&C Construction. “We’re hiring students right out of high school who can start immediately earning great wages on a career track without incurring college debt.”

The Construction Career Center offers hands-on vocational training for 11th and 12th grade students in Hamilton County Schools. “We are so excited to announce that students from any school in Hamilton County can now attend the Construction Career Center,” said Gerald Harris, principal of the Construction Career Center. “From intensive skills training to career counseling, this dual enrollment program gives students the support they need to be employment ready upon graduation.”
